Resources for Discernment Groups

This 3-part series is offered to assist with the development of an ongoing discernment group on your campus, or in your parish. Each guide contains twelve sections, and can be downloaded or printed free of charge from the links to the pdf's below.

The guides provide suggestions on how to structure the meetings, topical scripture passages, recommended points for reflection, discussion questions and takeaway assignments.  Plenty of material is offered on each topic such that the leader can use as much, or as little, as appropriate for the needs of each group.

The system is designed for a three year rotation with religious life covered in the first year, priesthood in the second year, and Holy Cross in the third year.  Each “year” has twelve lessons. Therefore, If a group is meeting more regularly than once a month, each “year” could be covered in a semester or less. This provides a steady stream of new material for groups that will have continuous membership from one year to the next.

Discernment groups can provide a very helpful way for men to engage in conversation and reflection on the topic of God’s call.  These conversations can then be the help for them to build up the courage to take the next step.  If you have any questions about this program or its content, please feel free to contact the Office of Vocations: vocation@holycrossusa.org
