Ministry

“Zeal is that flame of burning desire which one feels to make God known, loved, and served, and thus save souls.”—Blessed Basil Moreau

Our preeminent ministry as Catholic priests, of course, is service to the people of God through the sacraments and especially through the Holy Eucharist. Our zeal moves us from these starting points to a broad mandate.

We live out this desire in three main apostolates:

Education

The Holy Cross vision for ministry through education is holistic. “We shall always place education side-by-side with instruction,” said Blessed Basil Moreau.

He promoted education as “the art of helping people to completeness,” with the goal of preparing “useful citizens for society” as well as “citizens for heaven.” We do this preparation in a number of high schools as well as colleges and universities.

Parish Work

Holy Cross priests serve numerous parishes across the United States and around the world. These are natural places of service, education and instruction, family spirit and community, and collaboration in the life journeys of individuals and groups toward God. Missions

“The mind will not be cultivated at the expense of the heart.”—Blessed Basil Moreau

Our outreach to other countries has been an integral part of our zeal to make God known, loved, and served, and to boldly address the world’s needs for justice and charity. Today, Holy Cross has communities of ministry in Africa, Bangladesh, Canada, Latin America, and Europe, as well as the United States.
