The news agency pointed out that Old College, located on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, “is an example of a collaborative college seminary,” which is attached to an accredited school rather than being a stand-alone educational institution.
Not only is the Old College residential community fully engaged in student life on the campus, but each seminarian, like Wack, brings his own unique interest and background into play. Each pursues his own choices of academic majors and extracurricular activities while also accumulating the philosophy and theology credits required to apply later to programs for further priestly formation, CNS pointed out in its July 15 story.
Wack, noted CNS, has been interested in aerospace engineering and holds a pilot’s license, but another thing that makes him distinctive is his awareness of a vocational call deserving discernment. Two uncles who are Holy Cross priests “are the two happiest people I know,” says the new Moreau Seminary candidate. “As a young kid, eight years old, I was really drawn to that happiness.”
