Seminary
Everybody’s path is different when discerning a vocation. We want to offer you resources that can help you hear God’s call in your unique circumstances, aided by a sense of structure and support. The Holy Cross emphasis on community means you’ll benefit from friendship and mentoring all along the way.
Tap into our formation structure:
- First, make contact with our Vocations Office, located at Moreau Seminary adjacent to the University of Notre Dame. This is the primary formation site for Holy Cross in the United States.
- College graduates considering the priesthood may apply to the one-year prenovitiate Candidate Program.
- Graduating high school seniors and undergraduate transfer students may apply to the Old College Program.
- Applicants for the Brothers’ Program, considering the life of a Holy Cross religious brother, can live either at Old College or Moreau Seminary, depending on their age and previous educational level. A high school diploma is required.
- Those who complete their candidacy move on to Novitiate, located outside Colorado Springs, Colo. Novices spend a full year of intense formation in preparation for first profession, developing their prayer life while coming to a fuller understanding of the vowed life.
- After Novitiate, you’ll return to Notre Dame for three years of theological studies, plus a pastoral year of ministry in a Holy Cross apostolate.
- Final vows take place prior to a year of service as a transitional deacon, followed by ordination to the priesthood.
