Admission and Financial Assistance
The Church deserves our best at all times. Holy Cross formation programs are highly selective, accepting only those who clearly demonstrate the ability to live the vows faithfully.
We expect applicants who:- are men of faith, with a solid record of service or ministry-related activities in their Church life
- attend Mass frequently
- pray daily
- receive the sacraments regularly
- are men of integrity
- are emotionally mature and free from physical or psychological problems that would inhibit a full life of ministry
- have a capacity to succeed academically in undergraduate and/or graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College
- complete an application and personal autobiography
- participate in a weekend visit, including interviews and a psychological evaluation
- cooperate with a criminal background investigation, if required
Financial Assistance
“By our vow of poverty we submit to the direction of community authority in our use and disposition of property, for we commit ourselves to hold our goods in common and to share them as brothers.” (Constitution 5.48)
Tuition assistance is provided by the Congregation of Holy Cross and the University of Notre Dame to those in formation at Moreau Seminary and Old College. Prior to entering the Candidate Year, Old Collegians are expected to be responsible for room and board costs and personal expenses, including health insurance, books, and travel. Those accepted into the Candidate Program are responsible for personal expenses including health insurance, books, and travel.
