Try, then, to become perfect copies of the Divine Model, and nothing will ever shake your vocation. Not only will you carry whatever crosses you encounter in accomplishing the duties of your holy state, but you will love these crosses.
— Blessed Basil Moreau, Circular Letter 11
Blessed Basil Moreau founded the Congregation of Holy Cross to proclaim that the "Cross is our only hope" to a world beset by pressing needs. Constantly inspired by Blessed Moreau’s model of the Holy Family, we labor daily in the vineyard of the Lord trusting in Divine Providence, and believing that our work is His.
As apostolic priests and brothers, our consecrated lives are at the service of the apostolate - our schools, parishes and missions. Not bound by a cloister, we go forth with zeal to make God known, loved, and served and thus save souls. This rich spiritual heritage that we have inherited from our holy founder has born great fruit and it sustains us in our work today.
The motto of the Congregation of Holy Cross and the core of our spirituality is Ave Crux, Spes Unica -- Hail the Cross, Our Only Hope. We live and minister as "men with hope to bring" out of the conviction that by His holy Cross, Jesus has redeemed the world.
Our faith in the Cross of Christ as our only hope moves us to have an unwavering trust in Divine Providence, believing as Blessed Basil Moreau did, that God's providential hand can be at work in all things, even setbacks and suffering, if we but allow our work to be His work.
Blessed Basil Moreau modeled the priests, brothers, and sisters of Holy Cross on the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Since then, our congregation, as well as our apostolates, have been marked by a recognizably familial spirit and feel, bringing to life our union in the Body of Christ.
As an apostolic religious community, the Congregation of Holy Cross exists solely to carry out the Lord's mission. Drawing on the words and example of our founder, we do so with a definitive zeal to make God known, loved, and served.
