Summer is upon us, and although our seminarians are out of their regular classes, they still stay pretty busy.  Over the next several weeks, we will check in with some of them to see what's keeping them busy for the Lord this summer and how they are using this time to continue to prepare to serve the Church.  We start with Karl Romkema, a rising junior at Old College. Assembly 2011: Men with Hope to Bring

Assembly

This past week, over 350 Holy Cross priests and brothers gathered together for an assembly at Notre Dame.  In Holy Cross, assemblies, which some have described as akin to family reunions, are a chance for all of us who are scattered across the country – and really across the world – to come together for a time of fellowship in order to renew us in our vocations and our mission. This assembly was a special one, bringing together the Indiana and Eastern Provinces in anticipation of the creation of the new United States Province on the Feast of the Sacred Heart on July 1. Fr. Eric Schimmel, C.S.C., reflects for us on the assembly and its theme: "Men with Hope to Bring." Read More

Baby Priest Camp

Basically every summer, all Holy Cross priests in the United States who have been ordained for five years or less gather for the Early Years Workshop. These days of prayer, faith sharing, and fellowship at our Holy Cross Center in La Porte, IN, offer a wonderful opportunity for our young priests to reconnect with their peers in the community as well as to continue growing in their priestly ministry and identity. The only catch is that none of our young priests refer to the event as the “Early Years Workshop”; they all affectionately refer to it as “Baby Priest Camp.” Read More

Saint André Comic

The press keeps coming for our first canonized Holy Cross saint, Saint André Bessette.  Recently, he was featured in a cartoon in Venture magazine for children. We are pretty sure that Saint André never dreamed that he would be a cartoon hero, but today he is – and so much more. Read More

2011 Jubilarians

It took us a little while to make good on our promise, but today we are proud to post for you the text from Fr. Frank Murphy, C.S.C.'s homily at Holy Cross' annual Mass of Thanksgiving for its Jubilarians.  It was well worth the wait to get this Spes Unica exclusive as it is a masterful homily underscoring what it means to be a Holy Cross priest or brother serving God's people.  Join us one more time in giving thanks for our Holy Cross Jubiliarians and their 1,110 faithful years of service!  Read More

Mr Bring Ching, CSC

Mr. Brian Ching, C.S.C., our faithful blog correspondent this year from St. John Vianney in Goodyear, AZ, has checked in with his last post.  As he explains in the post, he has finished his pastoral intership there and is moving back to Moreau Seminary to finish his final year of formal studies before final vows and ordination.  In today's post, Brian reflects with us on all St. John Vianney taught him about being a religious and priest in service of God's people.  A big thanks to Brian for how he has helped us learn this year through the experiences he has shared with us on Spes Unica.
